Memorandum to
The Honours ble
With reference to your telegram No. 89 of the
26th February, I have the honour to transmit to you here-
with a copy of a memorandum which I left with the Hend
of the European and Amerios n Department of the Wai Chiao
ều on the End instant, regarding the utilisation of the
Chinese Customs Service for the suppression of piracy.
2. kr. Liu Shih-skun said that he saw no reason
why the Customs preventive vessels should not be asked
to co-operate in the manner suggested and undertook to
communiœ te accordingly with the Ministry of Finan oe
without delay.
3. I also seized the occasion to request the Wai
Chiso Pu to press upon the Chinese Goverment the
necessity of continuing their efforts to track down the
*rungshow" pirates and to take every opportunity to
clean up Biss Bay.
I may add that the frequency with which I
have discussed this problem of pireey and that of the
detention of missionaries in Communists' hands with the
officials of the ai Chino Pa has left them under no
misapprehensions as to the seriousness with which His
Kejesty's Government regɛrds these questions.
I have the honour to be
sir,
Your most obedient,
Sir Alexander Cadogan, K.^.B.0,, G.B..
His Britennie Majesty's Minister,
humble servant,
(Signed) R.G. HO E
PAKIN G.
